About the Author
Henry Olonga is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played for the national team from 1995 to 2003. He was a talented all-rounder, who played as a right-hand batsman and right-arm fast bowler. In 2003, Olonga and teammate Andy Flower wore black armbands during a match against Namibia to protest the Mugabe regime's violent crackdown on dissent. This act of defiance cost Olonga his career and forced him to flee his home country.
Olonga has since become a vocal critic of the Mugabe regime. He has spoken out against the government's human rights abuses and its corruption. He has also worked to raise awareness of the plight of the Zimbabwean people.
Olonga is a recipient of the Reebok Human Rights Award and the Amnesty International UK Media Award. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
