We will begin by examining the concept of revolution itself. What does it mean to be revolutionary? What are the different ways that revolutions can happen? We will then turn our attention to the role of popular culture in revolution. How can popular culture help to spread revolutionary ideas? How can it be used to mobilize people for change?

Finally, we will consider the relationship between philosophy and revolution. How can philosophy help us to understand the causes of revolution? How can it help us to develop strategies for revolutionary change?

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

* Define the concept of revolution and identify the different ways that revolutions can happen. * Analyze the role of popular culture in revolution. * Explain the relationship between philosophy and revolution. * Develop strategies for revolutionary change.

Course Requirements

* Attendance and participation in class. * Completion of all readings and assignments. * Final paper.

Grading

* Class participation: 20% * Readings and assignments: 40% * Final paper: 40%

* Week 1: to revolutionary thinking. * Week 2: The role of popular culture in revolution. * Week 3: The relationship between philosophy and revolution. * Week 4: Strategies for revolutionary change. * Week 5: Final paper due.
